In February 2014, after the revolutionary events in Kiev, a number of Australian citizens gathered together united by the idea of helping the Ukrainian society to get through the unprecedented events. Inspired by Dr A. Dobrovolsky, a decision was made to create an association of former Ukrainian citizens in Australia in order to contribute to the democratic processes developing in the war-torn country of Ukraine.
In September 2014, the Red Cross Society of Ukraine replied to Dr A. Dobrovolsky’s idea of cooperation in helping Ukrainian society by providing monetary and/or material assistance to Ukrainians in need.
On 17 December 2014, the charity organisation Ukrainian Australian Congress was approved by the Office of Fair Trading of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General of Queensland Government, Australia.
